Abstract: On May 31, 2003, the SLC (scan lines corrector) on Landsat-7 broke down, which results in about 20% data missing on image and hampers the normal use of data. Study on how to restore SLC-OFF data has became a hot topic in the international remote sensing domain. This paper at the basis of summary up present restoration methods and proposed a new method to restore the SLC-OFF data using the same time MODIS09 data. The steps are as follow: Firstly, using the algorithm of a spatial and temporal adaptive reflectance fusion model (STARFM) to fuse the MODIS09 and TM/ETM data. After fusion, we can obtain the fusion data has the same spatial and temporal resolution with SLC-OFF data. And then, to fill the SLC-OFF gap data with the MODIS and ETM fusion data using local linear histogram match. Experiment indicates that the method is superior to traditional methods and overcomes some defects in traditional repair methods, which can improve the utilization ratio of ETM+ SLC-OFF data to some extent.
